Having a career in advertising is like walking a tightrope. You have little room for error, and every decision you make has consciences. I think that we should be aware of other peoples feelings and do our best not to step on toes, but you can't please everyone. There are two ads that I think of in particular that walk that very thin line of correctness. One is an anti-smoking ad and the other is a absolute vodka ad. Both print ads, and both invoking troubling images for Americans in particular. Personally I don't have a problem with either, I think both are well designed and thought provoking. I just wanted to put them up here and see what other people think.

Sex Is Like Sarcasm
I sit in class and we talk about all the bad media and advertising, the sex and objectification of both men and women. If I did not know any better it would turn me against advertising as a whole. Then I see an ad done by a small design boutique and its makes it all better. Of course we always focus on the negative, but that doesn't mean we forget the good. An amazing print ad can make up for a years worth of Maxim covers. To me sex in advertising is like sarcasm in comedy, its the lowest form but it works.
